3 Simple Ways to Sound Less "Salesy"

Sometimes the difference between sounding like you're selling and sounding like you're recommending is just a few words.

Here are three small changes that can make your retail conversations feel much more natural.

1. Instead of: "You need this."

Try:

"I think this would be really helpful for what we're working on."

It feels more personal and gives your client a reason behind the recommendation. You're not telling her what to buy—you're connecting the product to her goal.

2. Instead of: "Do you want to buy this?"

Try:

"I think this would be a great addition to your routine."

This removes the pressure of a yes-or-no buying question. You're confidently making a professional recommendation and allowing her to decide what she wants to do with it.

3. Instead of: "You should get this."

Try:

"If you want to keep working on this at home, I'd recommend this."

This one is powerful because it puts the focus back on the result, not the product.

You're essentially saying, "Here's how we can keep the progress going between appointments."

The takeaway

You don't need a better sales pitch. You need to get comfortable explaining why you're recommending something.

When your client understands why a product makes sense for her, the conversation feels less like a sale and more like the personalized skincare advice she's coming to you for.

Pause after each patient. Find your pattern. Grow your retail.
